Hey tennis fans It’s your girl Mia Johnson-Carter here, and I’m super excited to share some fresh news from the world of tennis. As a young player living in Miami, I always keep an eye on what’s happening in the tennis world, and today I’ve got some amazing updates for you!
Recently, world number one Iga Swiatek announced that she has appointed Wim Fissette as her new coach. This move comes after she parted ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski earlier this month after three seasons together. Iga is known for her long-term perspective, always focusing on the marathon rather than the sprint. Her decision to bring in Wim Fissette is clearly a strategic one, aiming to elevate her game to even greater heights.
Wim Fissette has an impressive coaching resume, having worked with former Grand Slam winners Kim Clijsters and Angelique Kerber. His experience at the very top level of tennis is unmatched, and Iga seems thrilled about the prospect of working with him. Here’s what she had to say on Instagram:
“I want to say that I’m very excited and looking forward to working with Wim. I’m preparing for the WTA finals but my perspective is, as always, long term, not short term. I said many times that my career is a marathon, not a sprint, and I’m working, operating and making decisions with this approach.”
Fissette’s split with Naomi Osaka in September is also noteworthy. During their time together, he helped Osaka win two of her four Grand Slam titles. This experience will undoubtedly be beneficial for Iga as she prepares for her next big tournaments.
The transition from Wiktorowski to Fissette comes after Iga expressed dissatisfaction with her hard court performances this season. Despite winning four out of five Grand Slams with Wiktorowski—including this year’s French Open—she felt it was time for a change.
