The Pacific Women and Girls in Tennis – Emerging Leaders Workshop

Recently, I stumbled upon an article that caught my eye. It was about a leadership program called the Pacific Women and Girls in Tennis – Emerging Leaders workshop. This amazing event took place in Fiji and brought together eleven talented women from the Pacific region to learn, grow, and connect with each other. The workshop is part of Tennis Australia’s broader mission to empower women and girls in tennis by creating opportunities for them to develop their skills, build confidence, and become leaders within the sport.

Solheim Cup Highlights

Now let’s talk about something that really caught my attention – the Solheim Cup. After a heartbreaking tie in 2023 to Team Europe at the Solheim Cup, Team USA did not want a repeat of that in 2024. Something needed to change for them to find success.

Lilia Vu clinched the Solheim Cup for Team USA as they won 15.5 to 13.5 and clinched the Cup for the first time since 2017. The rookies stepped up, the veterans came up huge, and their chemistry was off the charts.

Solheim Cup, Rose Zhang

Team USA performed phenomenally from top to bottom of the roster. Their ability to step up when others did not have their best day was a huge key to their success.

Dominant Undefeated Queens

Let’s look at some of the numbers that helped result in a victory for Team USA. Team USA saw four women go undefeated – half had ties while the other two did not lose a single point.

Rose Zhang went 4-0-0 and what made it so impressive with Zhang was that she went undefeated without ever seeing the 17th or 18th holes at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. The 20-year-old took down Solheim Cup veteran Carlota Ciganda with a dominant 6 & 4 victory.

Rose Zhang's Dominant Victory

Zhang led all players winning 28 holes and only losing eight – that’s more than a 20-hole difference which is the most dominant performance in the last two decades.

Leadership Shines for Team USA

Team USA needed strong leaders to help Captain Stacy Lewis and her assistant captains. Nelly Korda took over and helped play inspirational music like “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston on the last two days of the tournament.

Nelly Korda skips out to the first tee – she’s the first Solheim Cup player ever to go out first in four sessions per Elias Sports. She and Megan Khang also encouraged crowds on the first hole and took in every moment of the experience.

Conclusion

This week just felt differently for Team USA – they carried themselves with so much pride and confidence. It paid off too because they were able to jump on Team Europe Friday morning and keep the momentum.

If you want, you can check out the news where I found it here.

Yours truly,
Mia
